Guidelines for late breaking abstracts (LBA) Guidelines for standard abstract submissions

Guidelines

  • The submission of the abstract constitutes the authors’ consent to publication. All accepted abstracts will be published in the official ESGE journal Endoscopy.

  • ESGE Days abstract submissions are limited to research involving endoscopy, abstracts not related to the field of endoscopy will not be considered.

Please read the following information carefully before submitting your abstract (text or video):

    • Abstracts should be submitted using the dedicated step by step online system.
    • All abstracts must be written in English.
    • Commercial drugs names are not allowed, only molecule/active ingredient/generic names should be used.
    • Limit the use of abbreviations and provide an explanation for each abbreviation used.
    • It is the author’s responsibility to submit a correct abstract. Any errors in spelling, grammar or scientific facts in the abstract text will be reproduced as typed by the author.
    • Please note: NO images or figures can be uploaded at the submission stage, although once accepted the abstracts can include images and figures in the required power point presentation.
    • Once submission is closed, no further edits to abstracts, including authors names, authors order, author additions or changes to author information such as affiliations will be possible after this date.
  • Authors will be asked to designate their abstract to both a first and second level category from the list provided below. Authors will also have the option during the submission process to allocate additional free-text keywords to their abstract.

1º Layer/main category: Location OR Endoscopy service (Heading)
2º Layer/category: disease OR endoscopy service subcategory (Subheading I)

All presenting authors are eligible for the Early Bird registration rate until 31st March, 2026. Thereafter, the standard registration rate will apply.

Presenters of the selected late breaking abstracts will be provided with a separate registration link, as we are aware the decision may only be communicated to the planned early bird registration deadline.

ESGE accepts submission of abstracts already submitted to other meetings unless otherwise in press or published as a full peer reviewed article.

Plagiarism and the use of AI-generated content

The conference organizers regard plagiarism as serious professional misconduct. If plagiarism is identified, the abstract and any other abstracts submitted by the same author are rejected.

The ESGE acknowledges the potential of generative artificial intelligence (AI) as a valuable resource for educators and researchers and encourages its responsible and ethical application. Authors are expected to carefully review any AI-generated content, including text, citations, or statements, ensuring accuracy and making necessary edits.

    Review and selection process

All submitted abstracts will go through a blind peer-review process carried out by an international reviewing committee. The ESGE Days Scientific Committee uses abstract scores and rankings to determine the outcome of an abstract.

Notification of acceptance or rejection to corresponding author

Notification of acceptance or rejection will be sent to the submitting (corresponding) author. Please note that only the submitting (corresponding) author will receive an email concerning the status and is responsible for informing all co-authors. Common reasons for rejection:

    • Abstract poorly written
    • Clear objective and/or hypothesis missing
    • Linkage between different parts of the abstract not comprehensible
    • Summary of essential results inadequate and/or missing
    • Patient safety is compromised
    • Content and focus of abstract not related to endoscopy
    • Videos of GDPR regulations (please refer to the submission process)
  • ESGE Days will withdraw an abstract upon written request from the submitting author. Requests for withdrawal must be made by January 7, 2026. After this date, ESGE cannot guarantee that a withdrawn abstract will be excluded from publication. Requests to withdraw an abstract must contain the submitting author’s name and abstract title. LBA Guidelines

  • Late breaking submission opens: March 3, 2026

Late breaking submission closes: March 31, 2026

    Withdrawal deadline: March 31, 2026

Decision sent to abstract submitters (accepted, rejected and grant winners): April 15, 2026

    ESGE Days 2026: May 13 - 16, 2026

  • The late breaking abstract category allows authors the opportunity to submit novel research that was not complete at the time of the standard submission deadline of November 25, 2025.

IMPORTANT: This is not an extension of the standard abstract submission deadline or for investigators missing the standard submission deadline.

Kindly be advised that the acceptance rate for late-breaking abstracts is low, given the limited space available in the program and the rigorous review process.

Case reports, literature reviews, retrospective studies, revisions to previously submitted abstracts and abstracts that have been or will be published (as a full article) or presented in any other scientific meeting prior to ESGE Days 2026 are ineligible and will not be considered as a late breaking abstract.

Upon submission, authors are required to summarise why their research results are novel and why they could not be submitted by the standard submission deadline.

All abstract rules apply to the Late Breaking Abstracts.

Late breaking abstracts will also be considered for travel grants.

Late breaking abstracts will be reviewed by the ESGE Scientific Committee, and the final decision communicated to authors by mid-April.

Accepted abstracts will be presented orally during dedicated late breaking sessions. Therefore, authors are obliged to attend ESGE Days 2026 in person to present the abstract.

Should the Late Breaking Abstract not be selected for oral presentation the abstract will be considered for acceptance as an ePoster.
